David Otieno, widely known as Slim Shaka, is a Nairobi-based performance poet and storyteller. Currently the reigning Poetry Slam Africa Champion (65th edition), Slim Shaka represented Kenya at the World Poetry Slam in Brazil in October 2023.

An accomplished artist, Shaka has written and performed six poetry productions, with the latest being "Of a Dying Breed." This immersive two-hour performance combines spoken word, music, sound design, puppetry, and contemporary dance to delve into the journey of modern youth navigating their place in history, with a spotlight on the political history of Congo.

Through his poetry, Slim Shaka explores the conflicts of the 21st century and the histories that shape them, bringing attention to the stories often left untold.
